FELA KUTI  -  100 SONGS 100 MESSAGES

An exploration of the political, social, cultural and philosophical messages in 100 songs of the iconic Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti.

Fela used the pulsating polyrhythmic energy of his songs as the platform for constant fierce criticisms of government corruption, social injustice and Army and Police brutality in Nigeria.

He championed the ideals of Pan-Africanism and strongly attacked colonialism, neo-colonialism and the apartheid system in South Africa.

Fela also expressed his views on many social and cultural issues in Nigeria and Africa.

For his fearless bravery, he was subjected to frequent brutal physical assaults and imprisonment by the Nigerian government. Despite this, he never stopped his political and social activism.

His fight for justice, equality and fairness won him widespread adulation in Nigeria, Africa and the world beyond.

He remains an iconic figure and the love for his music continues to spread globally with Afrobeat groups being formed in many countries around the world.

He had a lot to say and he said it all with deep conviction and without fear or compromise. He was a true rhythm messenger.

If you know, you know. If you do not know, you need to know.
